Zimbabwe’s horticulture industry is expanding into export markets. But even the sweetest blueberries and most beautiful flowers face challenges: pests like fall armyworm, silverleaf whitefly, and false codling moth can pull down yields and quality.
In September, HDC joined forces with Plant Quarantine Services International (PQSI), TradeMark Africa and industry representatives to talk about these issues. The workshop reviewed past non-compliance cases, analysed root causes, and evaluated our phytosanitary systems.
The results are on the way. We are developing coordinated pest-management and surveillance systems that will strengthen our export game. By improving collaboration between the National Plant Protection Organisation (NPPO) and exporters, we’re protecting Zimbabwe’s reputation for premium horticultural produce.
