POLICY WORKSHOP CHARTS PATH TO $2.5B HORTICULTURE SECTOR

We hosted a high-level Stakeholder Policy Engagement Workshop in June to rally support for Zimbabwe’s horticulture export push, with a vision to grow the sector to US$2.5 billion and create 600,000 quality jobs. Professor Obert Jiri, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, reminded everyone that horticulture isn’t a side hustle; it’s central to economic transformation. With the sector currently generating about US$80 million, the growth potential is huge.

Discussions tackled issues raised by our members: the cost of compliance, limited financing, red tape, and poor infrastructure. We tabled solutions — from a single-window export permit system to cut bureaucracy, to more investment in strategic export hubs, and simpler and more consistent tax and currency policies.

Follow-ups are already underway, and we are pushing for results.
