HDC-NUST SYMPOSIUM

In May, we teamed up with the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Bulawayo for a lively and insightful symposium themed: “Unlocking the Southern Region’s Potential for Sustainable and Export-Oriented Horticulture.”

The event brought together a great mix of farmers, agribusinesses, researchers, and policymakers, all focused on finding the best ways to grow horticulture in Southern Zimbabwe. We were thrilled to hear from Hon. Judith Ncube, the Resident Minister for Bulawayo, and NUST Vice Chancellor Prof. Mqhele Dlodlo.

We also hit the ground with field visits to the HAMARA processing plant and a nearby horticulture farm. These visits gave everyone a closer look at both the challenges and the opportunities on the ground. One great outcome: we are now exploring ways to link NUST’s research with our Hub & Spoke model, an exciting move towards growing horticulture in every corner of the country.
