How do we help smallholder growers move produce from farm to market? That’s one of the questions we put to young innovators at TexpoAfrica 26 in Bulawayo, held under the theme “Reclaiming the Bread Basket of the Region”.
Texpo is an annual agri-tech hackathon that brings together students from across Zimbabwe to solve real industry challenges. This year’s focus was on low-cost traceability systems — a critical need for improving how produce is tracked, verified, and prepared for trade.
HDC came in as a knowledge partner, sharing industry insights and helping assess projects based on feasibility, viability, and market relevance. It was encouraging to see students engaging with real issues, especially around meeting international standards. Some participants have already been identified for mentorship, with support to refine their ideas into practical solutions.
This is one way we are helping to build the next generation of agri-innovators.
